Reliable Storage
The company called Backblaze uses a LOT of hard drives in their business, and every few months (quarterly) they release hard drive reliability statistics to their readers with bated breath (OK, not everyone is that die-hard over drive stats, but we are — and we hope you are too!)… It’s always interesting to see the most and least reliable hard drives based on their reports.
TL;DR: The drives with the LOWEST “annualized failure rate” from their Q1 report (ignoring those without enough data) are… Drumroll
HGST: 12TB, model: HUH721212ALE600. AFR: 0.33%
WDC: 14TB model: WUH721414ALE6L4. AFR: 0.33%
Seagate: 12TB model: ST12000NM001G. AFR 0.63%
Toshiba: 16TB model: MG08ACA16TEY. AFR 0.70%
Anyone in the market for a new/big drive, or just interested in seeing how safe their files are between brands and models, can check out their latest report below:

We take reliability seriously, and read this stuff so you don’t have to. 🙂
Have a great week everyone! (We’re here for you on the weekend too!)
